    Red face

Hey maybe, since the ECU is a DOHC one and it was running just one cam, it somehow tricked itself into producing twice the power!! *please note the sarcasm here wink

Actually I'm not the greatest 1/4 mile driver, but I just couldn't get the kill feeling down. I drove it at a 15.5...friend drove it at 15.4. But he also was ripping the hell out of it...I could tell from the fence. But his reaction times were better too. He was a natural...I'm more of a road/track, play with the gears, take corners kinda of driver. Make it look good and fast all the time type.

Actually think about it guys...it's funny cause I remember being awewfully skeptical too about doing it at first. I plug it in, turned it on and no light, so them I cranked it over. I kinda ran rich and idled high at first. Then I got in it and drove it a bit. More deeper tone and a little less jumpy, but had more of a tame feeling with some power. I remember turning left and running it down this stretch towards some tracks and my god if part throttle wasn't cool feeling...I passed the tracks, went left towards a junkyard and wow did it really open the engine up. She really pulled better. Not a WOW, but a "christ, thaty really made a difference" kind of feeling. I'd say the ECU took .3 seconds for speed, and the motor just seemed more agile.

Now why it works...think about it. Two Cams or One cam...your sensors are all the same and the only thing an engine sees are load tables from primarily map values, O2 readings and water temp...those are 90% of the criteria to run an engine at part throttle...after that it's solely Map on full throttle.
Now there are differences like the idling..DOHC requires more fuel. And there was a bit of hesitation with the ZC ECU and 4-2-1 Header I remember between 2800-3200...really slight, like it had a bit of a problem wanting to part throttle accelerate. But I think this was more a problem with the engine and how it flows air naturally and what the ignition tables where advancing by. Could have also been that my timing wasn't set in just right or the ZC ECU might have liked a 1.5 degrees retarded with a Cam Sprocket....or more likely this ECU was set up for a 9.6CR engine not the 9.1CR engine.

At any rate, you guys aught to try it sometime. And you have to leave it in for a day. Run it at night, drive it around a bit. The next day after it completely cools down, the program kinda of finalizes and adapts to the engine and that's when it's really nice.

You guys ever wonder why people are running ZC engines with Si ECU's?? It can go the other way too. That was something else I thought of too.

Oh and how come my engine was so fast....hell I had a 2.5" low restriction Tanabe Exhaust..gutted cat, an RSR Header, and HKS 4" Intake - kinda of short-ram style, and I swear by this intake, and I also had the coolant bypass by the throttle body as well as the lash set perfectly...I might have had it a little tight but that's what's supposed to be good for free-er flowing exhuast. That was the 15.4 setup. I know when I added that lightened flywheel and Clutch that that puppy would have ran a 15.1 regularly. It was really that much more wild. And hell I still wanted to play with the D16 some more...add a B16A TB and a Gude Cam and have the head milled a bit. I could have ran probably a mid to high 14 on that engine...but the rings were wearing and burning oil. 206K miles mind you when I was doing this...it only took till 212K miles before I retired the engine and it was having trouble starting due to a lifted headgasket sharing compression between cylinders.

Anyways, I replied with a thread killer. Sorry it was so long guys. I just really liked my Old Si.

Oh and the biggest aset was the 20mm Front Sway bar...I had a lot of stutter and wheel slop before that. I also had hard suspension and was running 15's...the same one I ran on the street. The track had some really tacky crap on it too..was a pain in the ass to get off the outside edges of the tires. I bet I couldn't have had even better times if I had used my Place Racing Rear Poly mount for that engine. Argghh...I wish I had only had more money and parts back them. What I'd give for a completely new stock CRX Si...damn I really wish the older 86-87 CRX Si was more compatible though...D16Z6 all the way.
